Message	: often nearly 50% and I too WORK for the government. i compared checks with a fellow engineer once. I worked 48 hours, he worked 62. His pay check was only $100.oo (for example) more then mine (take home). I don't want to get into the gorry details of what I make, but lets just say, it's not worth it. here's how to work the overtime system to your benefit. Overtime is like the beach and ocean. from 0-50 hour work week, the tax rate is about 25%. (shallow water). from 50-70 hour work week, the tax rate is about 50%. (deep shark infested water). from 70-xx hour work week, the tax rate drops to about 20%. for your mental health, keep it under 48. you will not get that money back for 50-70 hour work weeks.
